Florida Law recognizes that some people may need to be involuntarily admitted into a mental health facility for evaluation and treatment. If the mental health court determines the client is incompetent to make decisions for themselves, a Guardian Advocate may be appointed.
Our Guardian Advocates are volunteers who work directly with the treatment team and the patient in making informed medical decisions and ensuring the patient's rights are not being violated.
Benefits include:
In order to become a Guardian Advocate, a four hour mandatory training
must be completed. Upon completion of the training, the Guardian
Advocate will be court appointed and assigned to a client before his or
her duties will begin. Our trainings are held in our offices in Downtown Orlando (map and directions).
Please contact Melanie Halusek by email or at (407) 898-0110 ext. 17 if you are interested in volunteering as a Guardian Advocate, or if you need more information about this program.
The group meets every Monday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in our office (map and directions). The meetings are FREE and refreshments are provided. ANY MENTAL HEALTH CONSUMER IS WELCOME TO ATTEND!
